Making BC floods look beautiful
Wed morning on way to work decided to drive through Fort Langley, Glen Valley and Matsqui Flats to get some photo of any flooded areas that were not on the heavy flooded Sumas Prairie.
I wanted to do some drone shots but there were quite a few choppers lying in and out in the area so decided not to.
Ruskin Dam water flow
Had a power outage today at my shop in Mission. Since it was late in the day decided to see if I can get some shots of places that flooded. Drove by the damn on Lougheed HWY and saw that it had a crazy flow so decided to take some shots and quick video clips.
Talked to some locals and they said they never see the flow and water height light this before.
Session with Olympus weather sealing.
While doing some errands drove my Lougheed Mall and saw a cool scene of new high rises with a mist over top of them with a Sky Train track below them.
Getting wet from cars splashing water from runoff while taking photos of the high rises decided to head to New Nest and shoot the two bridges. Got soaked as did the Em1 and 12-100. At least it was a good session to find out my winter jacket is no longer water proof lol, guess time to get some water replant.
I watermark my photos

therefore I am…
That sound you’re hearing now is the agony of 1000’s of other photographers that don’t like me doing what I want with my photos while normal people could care less about seeing a watermark on them.
There’s plenty of articles about why you should or shouldn’t watermark your photos. They all list the same points.
I watermark them to advertise my name and maybe 1 in a 1000 viewers one day will remember it and search out more of my photos. That’s it, well also to piss off another photographers.
- I don’t watermark to keep someone from stealing them as that’s silly, its just data on the internet and can be taken and modified anytime. I have no control over it.
- I don’t watermark to claim copyright ownership as again the photo can be cropped out and someone can add their own watermark.
- I don’t really care if the watermark might keep someone from using the photo in an article and write about it or back link to my site. If they’re that sensitive I don’t want them looking about my photos lol

Golden Ears Maple Ridge
Day started already late for work, while driving on HWY 17 I noticed the mountain rage behind Maple Ridge was snowy and light up really nice. Once I got over the Golden Ears bridge decided it was worth being even more late for work and take a few photos. Parked in the industrial area and walked up onto the bridge till I got a nice clean view.
At first zoomed in more onto the peaks for an up close shot but saw that some trees and the far off forest would make some nice layers leading into the snowy peak. The orange leaves still visible would also add a nice contrast.
Equipment used:
- Olympus EM1 MK2
- Olympus Zuiko 4:3 50-200
- Edited in Darktable
Building the site
Its taken a few weeks to get the site 95% finished as my OCD would kick in every 30 min and something had to change. Finally have it live but still debating gallery style design but for now I’ll leave it as it.
The site runs on WordPress and Oshine theme which cost about $29 USD. Took some time to figure it out and kinda annoying to have to flip back and forth sometimes between settings for each page/post vs using a Tatsu editor.
At the beginning it was a bit annoying figuring out the header/navigation and footer design, as unless you choose the Tatsu Header and Footer builders the design of those is pretty ridgit and the documentation for the theme is pretty basic.
